The upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class has just been unveiled, and opinions are likely to be polarized.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class was revealed on Sunday, featuring an electric powertrain that sets the stage for the next generation of this model, boasting nearly 400 miles of range, advanced electrical architecture, impressive fast-charging capabilities, and an optional full-screen dashboard. It has a lot to offer. For those who prefer not to go electric, a gasoline-powered variant of the next-gen C-Class, possibly with a different design, will be introduced later.

A quick look at the new C-Class clearly shows it embodies the latest design elements of Mercedes-Benz. The front displays star-shaped accents in the headlights and an upright egg-crate grille reminiscent of the W126 era, which can be illuminated with 1,050 lights. Large intakes frame the front bumper, which is a single piece. The A-pillars are angled back to enhance aerodynamics, while the rear has a sleek slant for better efficiency. A full-width red panel at the back houses the LED taillights, which also incorporate star motifs. These lighting and design features are carried over from the electric GLC-Class, the C-Class's SUV counterpart.

Inside, the electric C-Class is nearly identical to the electric GLC-Class. The standout feature is a pillar-to-pillar screen that constitutes the entire dashboard. Known as Hyperscreen, it consists of a single piece of glass and measures 39.1 inches across. If the Hyperscreen option is not selected, there are three separate screens under a single glass cover: a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 14-inch touchscreen for the passenger, collectively referred to by Mercedes as the Superscreen setup. The floating center console includes two cupholders and two wireless phone chargers, with a space for a small bag underneath. The air vents have nubs, there is a physical volume knob, and traditional stalks are present. An optional glass roof can be sectioned to be transparent or opaque and features 162 embedded illuminated stars.

The electric C-Class shares its components with the electric GLC-Class, which is a positive aspect. This includes a dual-motor powertrain (with one motor at each axle) producing 482 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, directing power to all four wheels via a 2-speed transmission. It draws energy from a 94-kWh (usable) battery. The performance is expected to rival that of a V8-powered C-Class from a previous era, even though this electric version does not carry the AMG badge. The acceleration from 0-60 mph is achieved in 3.98 seconds, with a top speed electronically capped at 130 mph. An optional rear-wheel steering system can adjust the angle up to 4.5 degrees to reduce the turning radius to 36.7 feet, and the air suspension aims to provide a smooth ride while adapting to road conditions thanks to Google Maps integration.

The notable feature is the 2-speed transmission, implemented to enhance efficiency within the automaker’s electric lineup. Official range estimates will be released closer to its launch, but expectations are for just under 400 miles.

When the battery is depleted, the electric C-Class will be capable of rapid charging, reaching a peak charge rate of 325 kW, allowing it to recharge from 10-80% in just 22 minutes and gain around 200 miles of range in 10 minutes.

Mercedes has yet to announce the pricing for the electric C-Class, which is expected to debut in the first half of 2027.
