Newey's Aston concept described as 'unsuccessful design'
"As a suspension designer, this is an inconceivable mistake."
Aston Martin's bold concept for their 2026 car has faced sharp criticism, with a Japanese expert labeling a crucial design feature as an "inconceivable mistake." An analysis published by the magazine version of as-web.jp questions the team's aggressive front suspension and steering configuration, which was developed with the arrival of Adrian Newey.
"When we began examining the link layout, we found ourselves asking, 'How does this even function?'" stated the media report. The judgement is significant given the prevailing notion that Aston Martin’s difficulties are primarily tied to its Honda power unit, with the latest analysis shifting the focus to the chassis design.
The critique revolves around the alignment of the steering rack and tie rods. "The operational efficiency is remarkably poor - from a mechanical perspective, it's ridiculous," the analysis went on, remarking, "I cannot envision it working accurately." It also referred to onboard footage, noting, "There were instances where the driver's hands executed subtle movements, yet those movements were not transmitted to the wheels."
"As a suspension designer, this is an ’inconceivable mistake’. It is a flawed design," he remarked. "When evaluating the operation of the steering, it can be plainly stated that this represents a defect from a mechanical viewpoint."
