Vettel: I set a goal for myself and achieved it!
Sebastian Vettel participated in the London Marathon today – it was announced back in March that he was going to do this.
He completed the distance in 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 8 seconds – on one hand, this is far from a record, as for example, the winner of today’s competition in the capital of the United Kingdom, Sebastian Sawe, covered these 26 miles almost an hour faster. But still, the famous Kenyan namesake of Vettel is a professional long-distance runner and the holder of the world record in the marathon. By the way, he won the London Marathon a year ago as well.
The main thing is that the four-time world champion, debuting in this marathon, completed the entire distance, which speaks to his enviable physical condition.
“I felt like this was dragging on for a long time, and since it’s my first time here, I didn’t know what to expect,” shared the former Formula 1 driver in an interview with BBC Sport. “But it’s amazing how many people gathered along the route, and all the participants had a joyful spirit.
I enjoyed this first experience, I’m still feeling excited and very pleased that I made it to the finish! On the course, you always run in a group with other participants, and only in some sections did I find myself alone. When I saw Tower Bridge for the second time, I realized that there was still quite a long way to go, but the crowd was cheering me on, and that really helped!
I’ve wanted to run a marathon for a long time, and it’s clear that I’ve always maintained good physical shape, constantly running and cycling a lot, so I decided that the time was right. I set myself quite an ambitious goal – to complete the distance in under three hours – and I managed to achieve it. So I’m pleased for that reason as well!”
It’s worth adding that Sebastian also participated in the London Marathon for a charitable purpose – to raise funds for the Brain & Spine Foundation, which helps people with neurological disorders. At least on the screen under his name, there was a title with the name of this organization.
