I don’t think I’ve encountered an unmodified EK Civic hatch in my travels. The Honda enthusiasts in my area tend to slap a Skunk2 exhaust on these cars as quickly as you can say “fartcan.” However, someone in British Columbia has managed to keep theirs unaltered, and now, the 2000 Civic DX in Vintage Plum is up for auction on Cars and Bids.
Notably, this is a no-reserve auction. As of this writing, with less than 24 hours remaining until the auction ends, the highest bid is $5,000. That could be a decent deal! We’ll have to see if overly enthusiastic fans attempt to raise the price at the last minute.
Since it’s a Canadian vehicle, the odometer shows approximately 145,000 kilometers, which is about 90,000 miles. Everything about this car is quite modest, from its 14-inch steel wheels to the manual windows, and the 1.6-liter engine originally produced 106 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque. Hopefully, most of that still remains. Regardless, what power the Civic has now is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
The known issues with the car are minimal, as the seller has mentioned chips, scratches, dings, and some rust. The rust seems primarily confined to the wheels and a few underbody parts, indicating that the salty air in Vancouver hasn’t taken as much of a toll as it could have. I’ve certainly seen worse conditions in my part of the Midwest in the United States.
When you open the door, you’re welcomed by the kind of straightforward user interface that many of us long for. The HVAC controls are situated on the left, nearest to the driver, while the radio controls occupy a small area in the center. Best of all, there’s no screen protruding from the dash, and there’s even space for vents above the stereo, which includes a tape deck. That’s a win!
I won’t continue to mourn what modern cars have become. I’ll just conclude this blog by saying I’m eagerly anticipating how much this EK will sell for. There aren’t many others available for comparison. Let’s hope the seller is rewarded with a fair price for their care of the car, and that the buyer gains a solid and reliable daily driver that’s rarer than any Lamborghini within the vicinity—uh, I mean kilometers.

Considering all the other EK hatches seen on the roads today, it requires significant self-discipline to keep the springs unmodified on one of these.
