Zak Brown: Mekis knows what I don't know!
In an interview with Sky Sports, Laurent Mekies confidently stated that Gianpiero Lambiasi will join McLaren in 2028 to become the new team principal. Of course, the same channel then asked Zak Brown to comment on these words, and the executive director of McLaren Racing, smiling slyly, said that Mekies knows more than he does: "It seems he knows something I don't! I have Andrea Stella working for me, the best team principal in the entire pit lane, and I am more than satisfied with his work. But my job is to get the most talented people to strengthen the team – this applies to those who lead the team from the pit wall and to those who work at the base in Woking. Andrea is doing a great job, but Gianpiero is also a very talented specialist, and when the opportunity arose to strengthen our racing crew, it had to be taken. We always act this way, whether it concerns drivers, engineers, or strategists. And I am very happy that Lambiasi will join McLaren." Brown also said a few words about the results of the practice in Miami, as Oscar Piastri showed the third fastest time in the only free practice session, and Lando Norris the seventh: "It seems that the results are very tight. Mercedes has not yet shown their potential, but the qualifying for the sprint will make it clear what they are capable of. The asphalt temperature exceeds 50 degrees, and there is a lot happening on the track, so the grip will gradually improve. The drivers will have to figure out how well the cars hold the track, although there usually aren't many chances to differ during the qualifying for the sprint."
