Simulators often prioritize appearance over practicality, but Italian design company Teckell aimed to change that with its Nivola. Named after the legendary racer Tazio Nuvolari, it is reportedly designed for luxury spaces such as penthouses, five-star hotel suites, and super yachts, according to Teckell’s website. The downside is that it resembles a race car bed with a screen attached.

Admittedly, it’s a very nice race car bed. It looks like a larger toy version of the type of car Nuvolari would have driven and is crafted from what an automaker's press release might call "premium materials." The Heritage Edition features a body layered with Canaletto Walnut veneer, along with a seat made of leather and microfiber and a steering wheel composed of aluminum and carbon fiber. The Racing Edition has an aluminum body shell and leather seating, while the Aero Edition replaces the seat with a carbon-fiber bucket with cushions, similar to those found in some supercars.

Included is a 49-inch, 5120×1440 curved display and an integrated soundbar, with Assetto Corsa Competizione pre-installed. Standard features also include force-feedback steering and a magnetic quick-release wheel. The Aero Edition further enhances the experience with haptic-feedback pedals (which have power adjustment), a shaker that transmits bass vibrations through the seat, a five-point harness, and upgraded computing hardware.

Teckell is now taking pre-orders at an unspecified price, though it’s safe to assume this designer rig will be pricier than creating one by assembling separate components. Each unit will be custom-built in Italy, with a lead time of 60 days per rig and a limited production of no more than 50 per year. Whether it will surpass the cost of the Pagani Huayra R sim rig—another homage to Italian design and extensive screen usage—remains uncertain.

For penthouse residents who lavishly spend on everything, the Nivola will be a worthwhile investment. If you’re investing significantly in hardware, it makes sense to house it in an aesthetically pleasing unit. A sim rig designed for a specific environment is an excellent idea, likely to be appreciated by your partner and guests. While converting a real car into a sim rig may offer more value, this option should prove to be a bit more space-efficient.

It is certainly more fashionable than the typical sim rig, though perhaps not in the manner its creators envisioned.
