Oscar Piastri: I am very satisfied with the result.
Oscar Piastri finished third in Miami and was pleased with the weekend's results...
Question: Oscar, a good result and the 28th podium of your career. Are you satisfied with how everything went?
Oscar Piastri: I am very happy with the result. For most of the race, I was far from the podium, so third place is really a good result. The team did a great job with the updates, we had an effective weekend, starting from scratch on Friday and achieving the best possible result in the race.
After qualifying, it seemed that the competitors had maximized what they had, but we knew we could improve. And the pace we showed in the race was indeed high, which is encouraging. From the perspective of being able to achieve more after a disappointing qualifying, I performed well in the race.
Question: Tell us about the first lap, at the end of which you were fourth?
Oscar Piastri: I had a great start. The second corner was quite interesting again. I was trying to decide which way to go next. Our car has been great at starting this year, and it worked again today, and after that, the pace was high.
In the first stint, I made a few mistakes and just didn't perform as well as I hoped, but in the second half, I felt much more comfortable. I was able to catch up with George and Charles at the end of the race, and I'm very happy about that.
Question: What are you expecting from the battle with Mercedes in Montreal? They are preparing updates, and you will bring many updates...
Oscar Piastri: It will be very interesting to watch. To objectively assess the situation, we need to compare results on several tracks. We were surprised when we unexpectedly secured a winning double in the sprint in Miami, winning purely on speed, which means that so far, everything is going well.
We expected that the updates would allow us to make a big step forward. We hope that the updates we are preparing for Canada will work similarly. We know that Mercedes also has a package of updates for Canada – let's see what the outcome will be.
Question: What do you say about the amendments to the regulations made before this stage? Did they improve the situation?
Oscar Piastri: In qualifying, the reduction of the maximum allowable charge helped a bit. It didn't solve the problem or all the problems, but it helped with one.
In the race, there weren't many differences. At one point, George was a second behind and managed to overtake me by the end of the straight. The closing speed is huge, and it's incredibly difficult for a defending driver to anticipate it.
As for the overtaking driver, I didn't really like one of George's actions, but about five laps later, I found that I almost repeated the same thing, simply because the overtaking speed was enormous. From that perspective, not much has changed.
I think the cooperation between the FIA and Formula 1 has been successful, but with the cars we have, it's hard to change anything. In the future, some changes are still necessary. How quickly we can do that is a big question.
