Mercedes looks for insights from McLaren while Ferrari awaits a decision on the engine.
Mercedes is reportedly looking for answers from customer team McLaren following the significant increase in pace from the Woking squad in Miami.
As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, engineers from Mercedes have reached out to McLaren for details on how they are handling the latest specification of the Mercedes power unit, especially regarding the software aspect.
The situation carries a touch of irony, as earlier this season McLaren representatives expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of guidance from Mercedes on how to best utilize the complex new 2026 systems.
The events in Miami have underscored the current hierarchy among engine manufacturers. La Gazzetta dello Sport noted that McLaren's progress resulted not just from upgrades but also because "it appears that Woking has learned to understand and manage the software."
This development has seemingly piqued the interest of Mercedes itself.
Meanwhile, Ferrari is increasingly concentrating on the impending decision by the FIA regarding ADUO, which might enable underperforming manufacturers to narrow the performance gap.
La Gazzetta indicates that the benchmark has become clear.
"These are correction margins based on the deficit identified by the best engine," the publication stated. "The Mercedes, if there were any uncertainties."
"The intervention window is between 2 and 4 percent. It won't be long before we see how much the Reds can adjust their engine."
Other Italian outlets report that Ferrari is already preparing a potential upgrade package for the Belgian GP if ADUO concessions are approved.
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur maintains that the championship battle is not over, even with Mercedes-powered teams gaining an advantage in Miami. "Verstappen was in the title race last year, winning from Monza," he commented. "I still believe in the championship."
2016 world champion Nico Rosberg also believes that Ferrari is close to making a breakthrough.
"They’re just missing something to secure wins, but they have made considerable progress compared to last year," the former Mercedes driver remarked. "I think they’ll be winning Grands Prix again soon."
Rosberg added that Lewis Hamilton seems to be more comfortable now after a challenging first season with Ferrari in 2025. "Now he appears to have finally adapted," the German said.
