Saudi Arabia maintains that the canceled Jeddah Grand Prix could still make a comeback in 2026.
Saudi Arabia is determined to continue pursuing a Formula 1 race this year despite the cancellation of the initial Jeddah event due to the Iran conflict. According to Bild newspaper, Formula 1 is also persistent in its efforts to revive its goal of 24 grands prix this season. Saudi officials have publicly reaffirmed this commitment.
During the presentation of the 2027 Dakar Rally route in Paris, Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal addressed the geopolitical context directly. He remarked, "It is impossible to be here today and ignore the moment we are living through and the events that have taken place in the region. Events that have raised questions, but have also provided answers."
He highlighted that Saudi Arabia has proven to be stable, with a strong system, secure borders, and a focus on safeguarding its people while promoting regional stability. The president of the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation added that the Kingdom was fully prepared to host Formula 1 prior to the event's cancellation.
"We’ve seen it clearly in recent weeks," Prince Khalid stated. "We were ready to host Formula 1 in Jeddah, as we have been for any other scheduled event in our territory. Fully prepared."
He acknowledged that the decision to cancel the race was made by Formula 1 and the FIA, a choice they respect, but emphasized that their willingness remains unchanged. "If anything, this situation has strengthened our commitment, not only to organizing events but also to what the sport stands for."
He insisted that normal life and sporting events continue within the Kingdom. "Life in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia goes on, and sport continues," he noted. "Fans fill stadiums across the country week after week because they feel safe, and sport is an essential part of daily life in the Kingdom."
