The oldest Formula 1 driver has passed away.

      In Biarritz, France, on May 4, 2026, at the age of one hundred, Ermanno da Silva Ramos passed away, having been the oldest driver to compete in Formula 1 until his death.

      Ermanno da Silva Ramos was born on December 7, 1925, in Paris. He started in the Formula 1 Grand Prix seven times in 1955 and 1956 as part of the Gordini team. His best result was a fifth place and two points earned in the 1956 Monaco Grand Prix. He last competed in Formula 1 that same year in Monza, where he retired after three laps due to engine failure.

      Ramos also participated in the "24 Hours of Le Mans" and took part in the famous Italian race "Mille Miglia."

      After Ramos's death, the new oldest living Formula 1 driver became Briton John Rhodes, born on August 18, 1927, in Wolverhampton. Rhodes started in a Formula 1 race only once – at the 1965 British Grand Prix. Driving a Cooper for the Bob Gerard Racing team, John started 21st but did not finish due to ignition problems.

      The oldest living Formula 1 winner is 86-year-old three-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart, who won in 1969, 1971, and 1973.
