Max Verstappen surpassed the result of the Super GT winner.
Next week, Max Verstappen will participate in the 24-hour marathon "24 Hours of Nürburgring" behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3. As part of his preparation for this race, Max also tested the Nissan Z NISMO GT500 of the Super GT class at Fuji Speedway, which we reported on. Now, the Red Bull press service has shared details of those runs.
Although the weather conditions at the unfamiliar track were far from ideal for Max, he was given a lap time target of 1:44.075 seconds, set by Super GT driver Atsushi Miyake, the winner of the "3 Hours of Fuji" in 2024.
On his first lap out of the pits, Max didn't go very fast to get acquainted with the car, the track, and to assess the grip on the wet asphalt. However, already on his first fast lap, Verstappen began to attack and completed the lap in 1:44.142 seconds. Max didn't stop there, and on his second lap, he surpassed Miyake's time with a 1:42.290 seconds.
Commenting on the runs, the four-time world champion said: "It was quite difficult to attack, but after the first lap, I thought I could go faster, and I did it in 1:42. I had to get used to the car, to how to apply the throttle and brake. The steering is completely different, and you need to feel the tire grip. You couldn't just drive straight through the streams of water crossing the track because the corners don't allow that. But it was really a cool experience. I hope it will be dry next time."
A video of Max Verstappen's runs at Fuji has been posted on the official Red Bull Motorsport channel.
