Vasseur: Ferrari's approach to working with the car has changed.

This season, Ferrari is surprising competitors and fans with various technical innovations. We have already seen the "Macarena" rear wing and a small wing mounted on the exhaust system. The team has also become the first to start installing small flaps on the Halo protection.

None of these ideas alone will bring victory, but they show how the engineers' approach has changed since the arrival of technical director Loic Serra in Maranello. Team principal Frederic Vasseur mentioned that when he first joined Ferrari, he was shocked by how cautious and conservative the approach to working with the car was in Maranello.

Frederic Vasseur: "It's not that there was a culture of fear, blame, or anything like that in the team, but we put ourselves in the role of the underdogs. The first thing that shocked me was how far behind we were in every single area simply because we didn't want to be vulnerable.

We added extra kilograms to ensure we stayed within the limit, filled up with more fuel than necessary, opened the side pods, and so on. All of this added up to a loss of two tenths.

Of course, it's impossible to work at the limit. But between the limit and two tenths, there remains one tenth. And considering that the average gap to the guys ahead was three hundredths, just imagine the impact that one tenth had on the season's results.

I tried my best to convince everyone in the team that each of us contributes to the result. And Loic has the same approach. I encouraged everyone to feel free to share their ideas – be open if you have something to propose. We never blame anyone if someone makes a suggestion that doesn't work. We encourage the team to innovate, but we shouldn't overestimate them.

Our goal is not innovation for its own sake. Our goal is victory. Innovations make sense only if they work. I don't need the rear wing to flip if it doesn't bring any benefit. But I am quite satisfied with the work done and the team's mindset, as I feel everyone has become more liberated.

Usually, each department has KPIs. For the guys responsible for aerodynamics, it's downforce levels; for the engine team, it's power, and they don't care about weight or cooling. I try to convey to the team that there is only one KPI – lap time. The same applies to innovations.

This season, we need to have the mindset that the team can improve in all areas. Honestly, I don't know what other teams will achieve, but our updates this year will bring much more benefit than before. If last season they provided gains in hundredths of a second, now we're talking about tenths. The impact of the upgrades has become about ten times stronger.

Therefore, what will be crucial is not the current state of affairs on the track, but how well the team can refine the car. It's important to understand in which areas we can become stronger, where competitors are performing better than us, and how they gain an advantage. For this, we need to be able to learn quickly, analyze, and constantly progress.

If each update allows us to gain two to three tenths, then the possibility of outpacing competitors at least once during the season becomes a huge advantage.

To effectively refine the car, good ideas and manufacturing capabilities are needed. The key factor will be the speed at which updates are brought to the track and installed on the car."
