F3: Ugochukwu was the fastest on the first day of testing.
In Austria at Spielberg, two-day Formula 3 tests have started. The fastest on the first day was championship leader Ugo Ugochukwu, who completed a lap in the morning session in 1:20.368 seconds. Due to the cancellation of the April stage in Bahrain, the gap between the first race of the season in Melbourne and the second in Monaco will be three months, which is why tests were organized in Formula 3 at the Red Bull Ring.
In the morning, drivers were not in a hurry to leave the pits. The first benchmark was set by James Wharton at 1:30.918 seconds, but this result quickly became irrelevant as Brad Benavides from AIX Racing completed a lap in 1:21.870 seconds. Soon, the tests were stopped with red flags due to Kanato Li's exit at the seventh corner. The ART driver got stuck in the gravel, and marshals had to evacuate his car. The tests resumed, but were interrupted again after a spin by Jose Garfias in the last corner.
The pause was short, and drivers returned to the track to work on short series of laps. The leader of the protocol changed several times until Ugochukwu set his best lap. After a one-hour lunch break, the tests resumed. Teams focused on working on long series with full tanks. This time, there were also pauses – red flags appeared on the track briefly due to Noah Stromsted's stop.
In the final hour of testing, teams switched back to working on short series. The best time in the daytime session was set by Stromsted, who completed a lap in 1:20.451 seconds.
