Hamilton responds to retirement speculation in Montreal.
"I’m still focused, I’m still motivated."
Lewis Hamilton has firmly dismissed the increasing speculation surrounding his potential retirement from Formula 1 at the season's end. The seven-time world champion arrived in Montreal, a track where he has historically performed well, amid fresh discussions about his long-term future with Ferrari following another inconsistent season start. On Thursday, the 41-year-old Hamilton emphasized that he is considering plans well beyond 2027.
"I'm still under contract, so everything is completely clear to me," he stated. "I’m still focused, I’m still motivated, and I still love what I do wholeheartedly."
"I'm going to be around for quite a while, so get accustomed to it. Many people are trying to push me towards retirement, but that’s not even on my mind."
"I’m already contemplating what comes next, planning for the next five years."
These remarks follow former driver Ralf Schumacher's suggestion that Hamilton and Fernando Alonso should step aside for younger talent. Recently, Hamilton has also made headlines for stepping away from extensive simulator preparation after expressing frustration with Ferrari’s correlation challenges. Notably, he admitted to skipping simulator work entirely before the Canadian Grand Prix after relying heavily on it earlier in the season.
"I just decided for this event, I’m going to sit it out and concentrate more on the data," Hamilton clarified. "I’m not saying I won’t use it again."
"But for China, for instance, I didn’t do the simulation and it turned out to be my best weekend."
