Max Verstappen: On the bumps, my foot slipped off the gas pedal.
Max Verstappen showed only the seventh fastest time in the qualifying for the sprint of the Canadian Grand Prix, trailing pole holder George Russell by more than five tenths. The Red Bull Racing driver stated that he was not satisfied with the car's behavior on this track, so he is not surprised by the result. Isaac Hajar lost one tenth to his teammate and showed the eighth fastest time.
Max Verstappen (7th): "I am not surprised by this result. I didn't feel very good in the car, I had serious issues managing it. On the bumps, I couldn't even press the gas because my foot was slipping off the pedal. All of this made stable driving very difficult, and we need to figure out the reasons.
We didn't manage to make a step forward compared to practice, so we'll have to accept this in the sprint. We'll try to sort everything out. I hope we perform better in the main qualifying."
Isaac Hajar (8th): "In the first two sessions, I felt confident. Finally, in the final session, I managed to complete a lap that I am satisfied with. But I didn't have enough time in practice to work with the Soft compound, so I didn't have the right references.
The team resolved some issues that were hindering us in Miami, and that is encouraging. But there are still difficulties with balance, which are causing us to lose a lot of time. Even if there is grip on the track, we can't take advantage of it. The track doesn't really suit the car, so the weekend could be challenging."
