McLaren is ready to consider the production of V8 engines.

At McLaren, they have never made their own power units, but after the recent statement by the FIA president about the transition of Formula 1 in the 2030-2031 season to cheaper and less complex V8 engines with a smaller hybrid component, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown did not rule out such a possibility, but under certain conditions. Brown told SBJ reporters that if the cost of producing a competitive power unit is significantly reduced, McLaren is ready to consider organizing independent manufacturing. Zak Brown: "I think if a financially viable engine formula emerges, then yes, we will consider such an opportunity. Right now we are very happy with our partnership with Mercedes, but if we are offered something that will be financially more advantageous, we will consider it."
