"I Constantly Consider C8." SRT Is Not Pursuing the Corvette.

The latest car news and reviews, no nonsense.

While Chevy isn't privy to the thoughts of the man leading SRT, he certainly has the C8 Corvette on his mind.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview in Detroit, Michigan for the latest episode of The Drivecast, SRT Head Tim Kuniskis shared with The Drive, “I think about the C8 all the time.” In an unexpected turn, the creator of the Hellcat models expressed admiration for the Corvette.

You can listen to the full conversation starting from the moment Kuniskis discusses the C8 Corvette and shares his perspective on the American sports car from a rival brand below.

Kuniskis remarked, “I am truly impressed by the engineering of that car. Of course, there are aspects I’m not fond of, and I admit I have my biases. However, there are features in that vehicle—and I’ve had the opportunity to meet Tadge and discuss the car with him previously—that are quite remarkable, and the engineering is exceptional.”

He further stated, “I told you some time ago that when we were developing the Charger and Challenger, despite our respect for the Mustang and Camaro, we didn’t set out to create competitors to them because they already exist.”

Linking the C8 Corvette to the forthcoming Copperhead SRT, Kuniskis mentioned, “We’re not trying to build a competitor to the C8 with this car. Absolutely not. Why would I? It already exists, and they're performing well, selling about 25,000 to 30,000 units annually. I have my doubts about the pricing; I question the range, ranging from $65,000 to $250,000. But you know what? They’re succeeding with it, so good for them. I don’t want to pursue that path, though.”

Kuniskis concluded the discussion by distinguishing the C8 Corvette and the Copperhead. “I don’t want to chase that. They’re a sports car. I’m clearly defining this as a hyper-muscle car,” he stated.

“It’s a different category,” Kuniskis finished, noting, “A Viper is a sports car. This is a hyper-muscle car.”

Any SRT and Mopar fans hoping that Stellantis would contend with the C8 Corvette can now begin the difficult process of acceptance.
