Zane Maloney will compete in Rally Barbados.
Zane Maloney, a 22-year-old driver from the island of Barbados, has been racing for the Lola team in the electric Formula E for the last two seasons, but we have known him for about four years.
In 2022, Zane became the vice-champion of F3 on his first attempt and made his debut in Formula 2; the following year, he completed a full season in this youth series while also serving as a reserve driver for Red Bull Racing, and in 2024, he collaborated with Sauber in the same capacity.
But now he is preparing to return to his homeland to participate in Rally Barbados – the main event in the motorsport life of this island nation and the entire Caribbean region.
Maloney mainly competes in circuit racing, but he already has rally experience – he has participated in this competition in Barbados in previous years, but the last time was three years ago.
This weekend, Zane will get behind the wheel of a powerful Porsche 992 Rally GT from the RSL Racing team and will compete in the Open R/GT class. Although he is racing out of competition, he could very well contend for victory in this category.
"This is wonderful! My mindset is such: I’m just going to drive fast in a race car, that’s all I know how to do," Maloney shared in an interview with RacingNews365. "I think everyone in Barbados loves these noisy competitions where cars drift through the corners, and the Porsche I’ll be driving is perfect for that. So everyone is looking forward to it.
Usually, the fans in Barbados support me very passionately, and this is my first return to my homeland since 2023, and now I’ve become a professional Formula E driver. Perhaps more people will pay attention to me now, and I want the audience to have fun watching the cars zoom by."
