In March, the federal government notified nearly 100 car dealerships to cease deceptive pricing practices, warning of potential consequences. Although the FTC made a considerable fuss about the situation at the time, it chose not to disclose the names of the dealerships receiving warnings. However, late last week, the FTC published the complete list of recipients online.

Automotive News highlighted parts of the list, which is accessible (though somewhat scattered and unordered) on the agency's website for your review. The list includes several well-known names, such as AutoNation and Hendrick Automotive Group. Lithia Group was also among those warned, representing more dealerships in the U.S. than any other single entity.

Here’s the complete list of dealership groups that received notifications; it consists of approximately 85 distinct entries, as some dealership groups received multiple warnings for various corporate entities across different regions.

If a dealership appears on this list, it indicates the FTC suspects they are or have been involved in one or more of the following dubious practices:

      - Advertising a price that does not include all required fees,

      - Advertising a price that reflects rebates or discounts not accessible to all consumers,

      - Advertising a price that overlooks the amount of an additional required down payment,

      - Conditioning the advertised price on consumers using dealer financing,

      - Requiring consumers to purchase additional items not included in the advertised price, and

      - Advertising vehicles that are unavailable or nonexistent.
