George Russell: The fate of the title is in Antonelli's hands

George Russell's crash in Canada and Kimi Antonelli's victory have resulted in a 43-point gap between the two Mercedes drivers in the standings. In Monaco, Russell arrived in a philosophical mood and spoke about how the fate of the title is now in the hands of his teammate.

George Russell: "If you look at the situation in the standings from my opponent's perspective, he is now in a position where he has such a large lead that it feels like he can only either maintain it or lose it. He is in a position where he could lose the title, as it now depends on him.

I am focused on enjoying every race and trying to win each one, just as I have been doing all season. I will fight just as I have before and I do not intend to change my approach to working on the track. And I will not let the situation in the standings lead me to feel greater pressure.

I don't think I need to achieve the maximum possible result every time, as the season is quite long, and things can still change for whoever is currently ahead throughout the year.

I just need to remain the one who ultimately becomes the leader, even if my opponent is achieving higher results right now."
