Leo Turini: I just have no words...

Leo Turini, a well-known Italian journalist who has been writing about motorsport for several decades, after Kimi Antonelli's fifth consecutive victory, admitted that he no longer knows what epithets to use to express his admiration for the 19-year-old Mercedes driver...

I simply have no words. Kimi Antonelli, our Harry Potter, makes me raise the white flag – in the sense that I have covered events in the racing world for many years, but now I don't even know what epithets to use.

In Monte Carlo, our new symbol of Italy's success in motorsport not only won the race. He continues to raise the bar of his capabilities even higher. Although the events of yesterday's Monaco Grand Prix unfolded quite tumultuously, and some of its episodes are open to interpretation, which only complicated the task, Kimi didn't even blink.

Twenty-two years after Jarno Trulli's success in Monaco, while racing under the same number 12 that Ayrton Senna used to achieve his first victories in the mid-80s, Kimi, the driver from Bologna, simply proved to himself that he is stronger than all his competitors.

I really have no words, even if my job requires me to find them. We have all witnessed how a fairy tale becomes reality: Antonelli achieved his fifth consecutive victory, and it was quite spectacular.

I agree, he has the fastest car, although I must humbly remind that even Max Verstappen, Michael Schumacher, or the aforementioned Senna achieved their main successes behind the wheel of the best cars in the championship at that time.

Nevertheless, the uniqueness of the gift inherent in champions lies precisely in the ability to make the most of the moment. Don't forget that success does not accompany everyone, as evidenced by the difficulties that George Russell, Antonelli's teammate, is currently facing, and he is experiencing these failures very painfully.

I don't know how the season will end, but I know that the boy, who is not yet twenty, is already achieving what no one of his compatriots has been able to do. Kimi is becoming a public idol, not just because he is so young. The attitude towards him can already be compared to the love for Ferrari, the national legend of Italy.

I must remind once again that since 1953, no Italian has managed to win the championship title. Perhaps there is a chance that this will change soon. In any case, the race in Monaco has become a kind of harbinger of this.

As for Ferrari, I still believe that Lewis Hamilton is performing at a championship level again. For the first time since joining the team from Maranello, he is ahead of his teammate in the personal standings, and this detail may partly explain why Charles Leclerc is so nervous.

The Brit, his senior teammate, now occupies second place in the championship, trailing only Antonelli. If Maranello can increase the power of their engines, then this summer we can expect more interesting and exciting races than anticipated. Although, to be honest, I doubt it, as it seems that the regulatory changes being discussed at the FIA level are unlikely to affect Mercedes' dominance.

Lastly, one more point that certainly does not justify the mistake made by Leclerc towards the end of the race. I cannot understand why Scuderia needed to conduct a double pit stop for Hamilton and Leclerc in that manner.

In any case, it is clear that Antonelli achieved a well-deserved victory, but even considering this, Ferrari needs to finally make that leap in quality of work that fans have long been waiting for...
