Bernie Ecclestone, Formula 1, and the FIA are appealing Massa's lawsuit.

Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One Management (FOM), and the FIA intend to appeal to the Supreme Court to contest Felipe Massa's lawsuit for 82 million US dollars. The former driver is seeking financial compensation, as he believes that the events of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix deprived him of the championship title that season. Felipe Massa insists that since the results of the Singapore race were manipulated, the FIA and Formula 1 should exclude them from the records and not award points. In such a scenario, Lewis Hamilton loses points for third place, and consequently, the title goes to Massa. However, the High Court in London dismissed the Brazilian's claim to be recognized as the 2008 world champion but allowed the proceedings related to the payment of monetary compensation to continue. In March 2026, the court ruled that Bernie Ecclestone, FOM, and the FIA must pay Massa a portion of the legal costs – around 290,000 euros. At the same time, the judge granted the defendants the right to appeal to the Supreme Court. According to Sky News, Ecclestone, FOM, and the FIA have been granted permission for a so-called "expedited" appeal, which allows them to bypass the standard procedure for reviewing the case in a higher court. Thus, the defendants can contest the court's decision that Massa's lawsuit regarding the alleged conspiracy can be considered on its merits.
