Bottas: I hope it will be a bit easier for us this weekend.
In Monaco, Valtteri Bottas retired from the race due to brake issues, but he hopes that the Cadillac F1 team has found a solution, and that there will be no recurrence of such malfunctions in Barcelona.
Valtteri Bottas: "Every weekend teaches us a lot, and due to the brake problems I encountered in the previous stage, we had to deal with this as well. But now we know what needs to be fixed to avoid similar troubles in the future, and the team has gained a lot of useful information on how to set up the car. This will also help us in Barcelona.
You could say we are gradually making improvements; this happens every weekend, although it is clear that we need to continue working on increasing the car's speed. At stages like Monaco, there are always some opportunities, and the team almost earned points there (Sergio Perez finished 11th on the track but received a penalty for violating the start procedure and dropped to 15th place).
Now we have another weekend ahead, which means there may be chances again, as we are still moving forward, even if it is not always visible from the outside. But I hope that Cadillac will achieve noticeable progress soon.
Speaking of the brake issue, we knew there was a 50% chance in Monaco that we would be able to finish the race. But in the end, I was unlucky. The main problem is related to insufficient brake cooling, and since there are many slow sections on the street circuit, the oncoming airflow is not strong enough. Therefore, the brakes began to overheat and burn, which usually leads to a complete failure – and that’s what happened.
Overall, I have to admit that I am still struggling to find a normal rhythm. When I get behind the wheel, the sensations from driving are often very different from those I had before. We are still trying to sort out such issues, but I hope that this weekend will be a bit easier for us."
