George Russell: At the moment, the title is too far away.

In two races in Canada and Monaco, George Russell lost 50 points to Kimi Antonelli and significantly complicated his task in the title fight. In Barcelona, the British Mercedes driver philosophically assessed his chances this season.

George Russell: "It's very hard to come to terms with a situation where something that is beyond your control and the team's control effectively nullifies the entire weekend.

To be honest, I didn't even try to look for any additional explanations for what happened because it's already in the past, and I can't change anything now. Unlike Pierre Gasly, who can still recover his result thanks to a review of the decision.

That's why during the red flag stoppage, I asked the FIA not to impose a penalty during the race. If they deemed the punishment justified, they could have considered the matter after the finish. When a penalty is served during the race, there is no opportunity to change anything.

Of course, it was very difficult for me to accept such a weekend outcome. When I analyze the season as a whole, I think that if it had been just neutral, not particularly lucky, but without serious failures, I would have at least three more podiums now.

Then I would have finished in the top three in five out of six races, possibly won a couple of races, and won two out of three sprints.

Even in that case, I would probably still be behind Kimi in the standings, but the overall picture would look completely different. Right now, I intend to focus only on what I can truly control.

I can't influence an engine failure. I can't influence an unfortunate moment with the safety car. I can't change the situation with the penalty in the pit lane. All of this is beyond my control.

To be honest, I no longer feel the pressure that I felt before. I just want to enjoy every race and not think about the championship.

At the moment, the title is too far away, so my task is to enjoy racing, enjoy driving, go fast, and show the level I am capable of. That's what I've been doing throughout my Formula 1 career, and that's what inspires me now.

If I were losing 60 points solely due to my own mistakes or lack of speed, I would feel much worse now. But when at least 45 of those points were lost for reasons beyond my control, it becomes a bit easier to accept the situation."
