This weekend marks the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and for many, it’s the highlight of the year. It’s a day packed with the world’s most exciting racing cars on one of the premier tracks, as teams of drivers strive to etch their names into its rich history. Gran Turismo 7 is celebrating this occasion with an update on Thursday that is almost entirely centered on the event, introducing four highly sought-after Le Mans Hypercars and a Porsche 911 Turbo safety car.
This week, we’re excited to welcome the 2023 Ferrari 499P, 2024 Porsche 963, 2025 Peugeot 9X8, and 2025 BMW M Hybrid V8 to GT7. This update expands the game’s lineup of modern Le Mans prototypes to five, including the 2021 Toyota GR010 Hybrid. After a series of new car packs featuring subdued crossovers and some very unusual picks, it’s refreshing to have a release that emphasizes motorsport and completes an entire class of racing.
Historically, Gran Turismo has struggled with consistently representing motorsport categories accurately. When Polyphony Digital added a race car from a specific series and era, it didn’t necessarily provide other vehicles from that set for competition. While the game’s internal categorization system attempts to balance performance metrics for cars from different eras and classes, it doesn’t always succeed, and it can feel off to see something like a JGTC Toyota Supra competing against a modern GT3 Mercedes.
That’s what makes the content and timing of this update so thrilling. Fans have been requesting these cars for years; Ferrari has secured victory at Le Mans three times since the 499P debuted. Of course, developing these vehicles to meet Polyphony’s quality standards takes time, but it’s odd that a Honda CR-V made it into the game before these prototypes.
Nonetheless, this is likely to be a costly set of cars. For context, the GR010 costs 3 million credits in GT7, and if Polyphony maintains a similar pricing strategy for its competitors, it could total 15 million to acquire the entire class. Naturally, this update will also feature a series of new events, and with three of those centered around Gr.1 race cars, we can only hope they offer generous rewards.
