Pirelli confirmed as the F1 tyre supplier until 2028.

"Pirelli has been a key partner"

The tyre situation in Formula 1 has now officially been resolved through the end of 2028. On Thursday, the FIA announced that it has activated the contractual option to extend Pirelli's agreement by another year, ensuring the Italian manufacturer remains the exclusive tyre supplier for Formula 1 until the conclusion of the 2028 season. This development was anticipated after reports surfaced in May indicating that all stakeholders had consented to invoke the extension clause in Pirelli’s current contract. The deal also encompasses Formula 2 and Formula 3.

"This extension until the end of 2028 offers stability for the championship and highlights the strong collaboration among the FIA, Formula One Group, and Pirelli," stated FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Pirelli has continuously supplied tyres to Formula 1 since 2011 and is expected to submit a bid for the supply cycle following 2028.

H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, remarked: “Pirelli has served as an essential partner to the FIA Formula One World Championship for many years, consistently delivering high standards of performance, innovation, and safety at the pinnacle of our sport. This extension through to 2028 ensures stability for the championship and showcases the robust collaboration between the FIA, Formula One Group, and Pirelli. Through our partnership, we strive to foster innovation and provide thrilling racing experiences for competitors, teams, and fans globally."

Marco Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice Chairman of Pirelli, stated: “We are excited to extend our involvement in Formula 1 for an additional year, up to 2028, thanks to the agreement with the FIA—under the leadership of President Mohammed Ben Sulayem—and with Formula 1. Last year, we achieved the milestone of over 500 Grands Prix, tackling and overcoming significant technological and innovation challenges throughout our long-standing participation. Pirelli is not merely a supplier; we are a strategic partner committed to supporting the ongoing growth of the championship, propelled by the collaborative efforts of the Federation and the promoter. Formula 1 serves as the ultimate testing ground for us to innovate and experiment with cutting-edge technical solutions, continually enhancing research and development processes for the advancement of future road tyres.”

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1 Group, commented: "We have enjoyed a remarkable history and partnership with Pirelli, relying on their technical proficiency and emphasis on performance, innovation, and sustainability for many years. Therefore, I am thrilled that the FIA and we will maintain that relationship for another year. As we continue to explore the limits of the technical regulatory framework, Pirelli’s dedication to quality assures all the teams and series they supply, knowing they are using some of the most sophisticated tyres worldwide. I would like to express my gratitude to FIA President, His Excellency Mohammed Ben Sulayem, and Marco Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice Chairman of Pirelli—this extension exemplifies the benefits of collaborating with expert partners whose experience fosters excellence and produces the finest spectacle on track."
