Wurz cautions that the Mercedes title battle might get messy.
"They are champions, alphas, and their goal is to win."
GPDA chairman Alex Wurz expresses skepticism regarding the lasting harmony between Kimi Antonelli and George Russell amid a lengthy title race. Antonelli's fifth straight win in Monaco has increased his lead over teammate Russell to 68 points, leading to ongoing comparisons with the infamous rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff recently dismissed these comparisons. "No, those two have much better personalities," Wolff remarked about Antonelli and Russell, as reported by f1-insider.com. "The other two have worse character traits." However, former Formula 1 driver Wurz is not entirely convinced. "It instantly brings to mind Rosberg versus Hamilton," he noted. "I chuckled a bit at his comment about them being different in character," Wurz said. "They are winners, alpha types, and they strive to win." "Perhaps they heed his advice a bit more, but I'm skeptical, as only one can claim the Formula 1 world champion title." The ex-Benetton and McLaren driver thus questions whether the current tranquility can be sustained. "It’s a ruthless environment, and I wish Toto the best of luck," Wurz mentioned. Nonetheless, he praised championship leader Antonelli. "Winning consecutively at such a young age is remarkable. Very few can achieve that," he stated. "Kimi is developing tremendously, and we've always said that once he hits his stride, it will be tough to stop him." "He is proving that to us now."
