Pierre Gasly: This day will be memorable for the whole team.

The joy of Alpine regarding Pierre Gasly's return to the podium in Monaco, albeit retroactively, did not help the drivers of the Renault factory team stand out during the practice sessions in Barcelona. Both ended up outside the top ten, with Franco Colapinto finishing one position higher than his experienced teammate, and both complained about balance issues.

Pierre Gasly (16th): "This day will be memorable for our entire team. Shortly before the practice sessions began, we learned the news that we had been awarded third place at the finish in Monaco, and this made us very happy. However, the celebration was short-lived because a challenging day lay ahead.

I want to thank the entire team for their perseverance in exercising their right to review the results, and I know that many people had to put in tremendous effort for this. I am also proud of Formula 1 and the FIA for adhering to the principle of transparency and acknowledging their responsibility, which ultimately allowed us to achieve this result.

As for the practice day, it was certainly not easy for us. It was difficult to drive in both sessions, so we have to work hard to make improvements and prepare for tomorrow. We are fully focused on the tasks ahead of us this weekend and will try to handle them as best as we can."

Franco Colapinto (15th): "The day did not go well, and so far, it has been one of the most challenging Fridays of the season. It was hard to drive; the car lacked grip and was sliding a lot.

It is very hot in Barcelona, and the conditions are very different from those we had here in January when we conducted the initial testing of the car. I don't know if it's the heat or something else, but I felt uncomfortable behind the wheel – I couldn't feel the car.

Moreover, since it was constantly sliding, the level of tire degradation was also very high, which, of course, affected its performance. The team and I are dissatisfied with how the weekend started, but we need to try to replicate what we managed in previous races and work to change the current situation.

We need to carefully analyze the collected information and address several issues. I hope that in the third practice session tomorrow, we will see some improvements, after which we have another important qualifying session ahead.

I also want to congratulate Pierre and everyone at Alpine F1 on the restoration of the result in Monaco, as we have been given back the podium, and these points are very important for the team."

Steve Nielsen, Managing Director of Alpine F1: "The day started off quite well – it's not often that we manage to score points on a Friday! But then we quickly returned to the tasks of this weekend, and things became less positive.

I have already mentioned that we seem to be developing a habit of starting slowly, struggling with issues on Friday, but then recovering in the remaining days of the weekend. This was probably the most unsuccessful Friday of the season in terms of results and the impression the car made on the drivers.

We have already shown that we can recover, and I am quite optimistic, hoping that we can do it here as well and return to the desired level of results. We also need to understand the reasons for the drop in pace and lay a better foundation before the main events of the weekend.

Pierre and Franco were unhappy with the balance and complained about a lack of grip. In the evening, we will analyze all the collected information – this work will be done both here at the track and at the team's base in Enstone, where we will use the simulator, and we hope to achieve some improvements before qualifying.

It is difficult to overtake on this track, so it is important to start from good positions, and qualifying will once again be a very important session. The weather conditions suggest that there will likely be several pit stops, but this also opens up opportunities for strategy. However, we will see what condition the track surface will be in tomorrow and how its improvement will affect the results in the remaining days of the weekend."
