Madrid acknowledges the pressure following the cancellation of the scheduled F1 test event.
"Things are not progressing as we had hoped."
Despite months of official denials regarding delays, new concerns have arisen about Madrid's preparedness for its Formula 1 debut later this year. The new Madring circuit has recently passed an FIA inspection, and organizers have consistently maintained that preparations are on track. However, the president of the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation (RFEdA), Manuel Avino, has now admitted that time is getting tight. "I’m genuinely enthusiastic, with high expectations, yet a bit anxious, as we’re not exactly staying on schedule in many areas," he shared with Soy Motor. "But I'm confident it will all work out, and it will work out well."
With less than three months until Formula 1 arrives, Avino acknowledged that the project has faced several unforeseen challenges. "Things aren’t going as we’d like, but they’re not going poorly either," he stated. "Unexpected and unwelcome issues are cropping up, but we are finding alternative solutions." The biggest setback is the cancellation of a planned test race meant to provide organizers and officials a full practice run before Formula 1's arrival. "I had scheduled a test run that couldn’t happen due to various issues concerning legislative permits," Avino explained. "It will be substituted by a series of technical tests that will ensure we approach the weekend in September with confidence that we have done a good job and that everything will function properly."
