Rovanpera has been authorized to continue his journey towards Formula 1.
Kalle Rovanpera’s ambitions of a future in Formula 1 have received a significant boost following Toyota's announcement that the two-time world rally champion has been medically cleared to continue his racing activities.
The Finnish driver surprised the motorsport community by stepping away from rallying to pursue a serious path in single-seater racing, with confirmed intentions to participate in Japan’s Super Formula series. However, these plans were abruptly interrupted when Rovanpera developed a dizziness issue that sidelined him on medical grounds after initial single-seater tests and races.
Now, Toyota Gazoo Racing has announced that the 25-year-old is prepared to restart his journey, having shown "strong progress in his recovery over the past weeks."
"Since his intended participation in Super Formula this season was paused due to medical issues, Kalle has taken the time to recuperate and prioritize his health. With his recovery going well, he has already resumed physical training and can now anticipate a gradual return to driving," the statement elaborated.
Toyota indicated that Rovanpera has been collaborating closely with Finland’s Institute of High Performance Sport, known as KIHU, during his recovery process. "Recognized for its support of Finland’s Olympic and national team athletes, KIHU has offered scientific expertise to enhance Rovanpera’s recovery and training and has now cleared him to return to the track."
Toyota also stated that the goal is for Rovanpera to return to racing in 2027 "and will provide further updates in due course."
