Andrea Stella: Ferrari has the best chassis in the peloton.
In Barcelona, Lando Norris finished third, marking his second podium of the season. After the race, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella outlined the areas where the MCL40 car falls short compared to its rivals from Ferrari.
Andrea Stella: "The race in Barcelona gave us a very clear understanding of the specific areas where we are lagging behind our competitors.
To some extent, these conclusions confirm what we already knew. At the moment, Ferrari has the best chassis in the field. This is particularly noticeable in the second sector of the track and in medium-speed corners, where Ferrari is faster than the rest. However, it cannot be said that they are the fastest on the straights.
At McLaren, we see that we are competitive in fast corners, such as the third, ninth, and fourteenth. However, we lack grip in slow and medium-speed corners.
For us, the conclusions are quite obvious. We understood earlier that we need to increase downforce to load the tires more effectively. Additionally, we need to improve tire management, including during the preparation for qualifying attempts. For example, we often lose time in the early corners of a fast lap. During the race distance, we need to better control tire degradation.
Our plan of action is crystal clear. We need to improve aerodynamic efficiency and find solutions that will allow us to utilize the tire potential more effectively."
