Jacques Villeneuve: No one is talking about Piastri anymore...

Jacques Villeneuve believes that Oscar Piastri has still not fully regained his mental balance after last year's failures that plagued the Australian McLaren driver in the second half of the season when he lost the title. Up until the 19th round, the US Grand Prix, Oscar was leading in the personal standings, but his advantage gradually diminished, and by Mexico, Lando Norris had overtaken him.

Since the beginning of this season, McLaren has faced difficulties of a different nature related to the transition to new generation technology, but Oscar continued to make mistakes, although he performed quite confidently in Japan and Miami and made it to the podium. However, after that, he fell behind his teammate, and Norris is ahead of him in the personal standings, although not by much.

"In the first half of the season, there was a lot of talk about Oscar in the paddock, and we saw how he performed then," Villeneuve reflected on Sky Sports. "The general opinion was: 'Oh, this is a real talent! It's great that McLaren signed a contract with him, as he performed incredibly well in Formula 2!'

And then he suddenly dropped off, lost his form, and hasn't regained it since. It's somewhat strange, and now no one is talking about Piastri anymore. And all of this happened in just six months or even less. It's really very strange, but as we often say, you are only as good as your last race.

Not everyone can cope with the difficulties of this sport – unless you are Lewis Hamilton, with many titles and victories behind you. Then you can appeal to your previous experience; otherwise, just two or three unsuccessful races, and that's it, you're done."
