The box is making a comeback. Or, it will be, but in three years.

Honda enthusiasts and Element aficionados can celebrate, as Automotive News reported on Wednesday that the Honda Element will return as a hybrid crossover set to debut in 2029.

The new Element is anticipated to be a significant model for the Japanese automaker, aiming for nearly 100,000 sales in its first full year of production. That's just 35,000 units short of the Ford Bronco Sport's projected sales in 2025.

Honda dealerships will soon be filled with small crossover SUVs, with the Element positioned between the HR-V and CR-V models.

According to Automotive News, production of the new Element is expected to begin in Central Ohio in the second quarter of 2029. Honda had originally intended to manufacture its new Zero Series lineup of EVs in Ohio before unexpectedly canceling the project.

Shifting its focus from EVs, Honda has announced that it will prioritize hybrids as the foundation of its business. The automaker is gearing up to introduce a new clean-sheet V6-based hybrid powertrain for all of its midsize and large models.

The return of the Element will occur 18 years after the original model was discontinued. The first-generation Element had a run of nearly a decade, featuring only one mild refresh.
