The box is making a comeback. Or, at least, it will in three years.
Honda enthusiasts and Element devotees can celebrate as Automotive News reported on Wednesday that the Honda Element will be reintroduced as a hybrid crossover slated for 2029.
The new Element is expected to be a key player for the Japanese automaker, aiming for nearly 100,000 sales in its first full year of production. This number is just 35,000 units short of the Ford Bronco Sport's sales in 2025.
Honda dealerships are set to become busy with small crossover SUVs, as the Element will fit between the HR-V and CR-V models.
According to Automotive News, production of the new Element is anticipated to start in Central Ohio during the second quarter of 2029. Honda had initially planned to manufacture its new Zero Series family of EVs in Ohio but abandoned the project at the last minute.
Shifting focus from EVs, Honda announced that hybrids will be central to its business. The automaker is preparing to introduce a brand new V6-based hybrid powertrain for its midsize and large vehicles.
The Element's revival will occur 18 years after the original nameplate was discontinued. The first version had a lifespan of nearly a decade with only one mild refresh.
