Kimi Antonelli: I made too many mistakes
Kimi Antonelli is not satisfied with his performance in Spielberg and believes he made too many mistakes...
Question: Kimi, your first lap was interesting: you struggled to stay on track, then had to fight back...
Kimi Antonelli: Yes, in the early laps I was very excited and didn't drive my best. I made too many mistakes.
In the first stint on Medium tires, I lost three to four seconds due to mistakes. I had problems with the brakes, but after the tire change, I got myself together and drove at a great pace. It's a shame it happened too late.
Question: Even though you got involved in the battle too late, you gave us a fantastic finish...
Kimi Antonelli: Yes, the last laps were interesting. A few more laps and it could have ended differently, but I congratulate George and Max, they had a great weekend, and I still have work to do. I need to minimize mistakes.
Question: Kimi, on Saturday due to yellow flags we didn't get to see what you were capable of in qualifying. How do you assess the weekend as a whole?
Kimi Antonelli: I started the weekend very confidently and I think I relaxed too much because of that. Before qualifying, I felt a bit tense. We were still in the lead, but I felt like I wasn't driving as well and as freely as I could.
In the last attempt, things went as they went, but I was one-tenth behind George, so I would probably have taken second place – very close, but still second.
In the end, everything turned out differently. I started fourth, had a poor first lap, then serious brake problems arose, I started making mistakes and lost a lot of time. The second stint went better, and in the third, I was driving very, very fast. The pace was excellent, but it wasn't enough.
Question: Were there moments during the race when things could have turned out differently and you could have fought George for the win?
Kimi Antonelli: In the first stint. At the end of the first stint, I made a couple of mistakes, losing about a second to a second and a half on each lap; on one lap, I almost went off in the fourth corner, and on another, I went off in the third. I lost a lot of time there.
If it weren't for those mistakes, I would probably have had a chance to fight for second or even first place. But of course, it's easy to say that now. I need to make sure they don't happen again.
