Pirelli: If the weather permits, one pit stop is enough.
The Pirelli company has become the sponsor of the British Grand Prix this year, one of the races of the season held on classic Formula 1 tracks. Only the British and Italian stages of the championship have been held every year since 1950, and Pirelli will also be the title sponsor of the September race in Monza.
By the way, the very first race in Silverstone, which took place on May 13, 1950, was won by Giuseppe Farina driving an Alfa Romeo, and his car was fitted with Pirelli tires.
The upcoming race in Silverstone will be the 77th British Grand Prix, and Pirelli has prepared tires of the three hardest compounds C1, C2, and C3, considering the high loads that the tires will have to withstand on a track where there is always a high level of degradation.
The front tires are loaded the most there, and the front left tire is particularly prone to wear, as most of the corners on the lap are right-hand turns. The asphalt surface is not very abrasive and provides good grip also because the track is actively used year-round.
Pirelli predicts that the preferred strategy in Silverstone will be a single pit stop, with teams betting on the C2 and C3 compounds. The hardest tires will be used in the only Friday practice session, as this year's race weekend program includes a Saturday sprint.
Additionally, since English weather can always bring surprises, tires for wet conditions may also come in handy. This was the case in the previous two years when the British Grand Prix was accompanied by rain.
Next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, Pirelli tire engineers plan to conduct further tests of slick prototypes in Silverstone as part of the preparation for 2027. The Mercedes and Williams teams will be working on these tests.
