Sainz Sr.: The son doesn't give up and does everything he can.

Carlos Sainz, like his teammate at Williams Alex Albon, is having a tough year, but not because they have suddenly become worse drivers. The British team has made a number of miscalculations while creating the car under the new technical regulations, and although the process of upgrading the chassis is ongoing, firstly, it is stretched over time, and secondly, its most active phase is scheduled for the second half of summer, as James Vowles has mentioned more than once.

On some tracks, Carlos and Alex have managed to earn a few points, but recently their performance has been poor for various reasons, and last Sunday the Spanish driver did not finish at the Red Bull Ring due to technical issues, while his teammate finished second to last.

Nevertheless, Carlos Sainz Sr., the famous driver, two-time world rally champion, and four-time winner of the Dakar rally, assures that his son maintains a normal working attitude and is not planning to give up. "The philosophy of life in general should be like this," quotes him the Madrid newspaper Marca. "You should never give up; in difficult times, you must have a clear action plan, and you need to grit your teeth and keep working. That’s how Carlos is acting now: he doesn’t give up, even if he has to fight for positions at the back of the pack.

Considering what kind of car he has now, he is doing everything he can. Williams is lagging far behind the leaders, although, of course, the team will gradually achieve improvements, but for now, it’s only about regularly making it to the second part of qualifying – it’s unlikely to expect more.

This year, the technical regulations in Formula 1 have changed, so there are plenty of surprises, and Williams has not yet managed to reach the level they want to achieve. If last season was record-breaking in terms of competitiveness, now the difference in results between teams reaches four seconds. Let’s hope that step by step Williams will reduce the gap, and the overall pack will become denser. Then the spectacle of the races will increase, and it won’t be the case that the winning car laps those finishing in 6th or 7th place, as happened in Barcelona."

Carlos Sainz is serving as an ambassador for the MadRing racetrack being built in the Spanish capital, which will host the Spanish Grand Prix for the first time in September. Sainz Sr. said a few words about this project: "It will be quite an unusual track: it combines features of a city circuit and a permanent racetrack. The track is very challenging, and drivers will need to show all their skills. Formula 1 is returning to Madrid, and that’s incredibly great!

I would like Carlos to participate in this race under somewhat different circumstances, but I am sure he will enjoy racing at a circuit located just 20 minutes from his home. This gives him special motivation – but in any case, the Spanish Grand Prix will be held in Madrid for another nine years."
