Button: Hamilton has a chance to win at Silverstone
Formula 1 champion of 2009 Jenson Button spoke on Sky Sport News about Lewis Hamilton's chances on home soil…
Jenson Button: “Lewis is confident in his abilities. Things didn’t go well for him in Austria, but it’s not about him. The car simply lacked the necessary qualities.
Compared to Charles Leclerc, Lewis was able to significantly extend the life of the tires in the first stint; he had the pace when his teammate didn’t. He wasn’t satisfied with the result but knew he had extracted the maximum. And that’s the old Lewis we used to know; he maximizes every opportunity, and it’s really nice to see.
Lewis will feel more comfortable on home soil in cooler weather than last week in Austria. Ferrari has very effective aerodynamics. Silverstone is primarily a track for powerful engines, but cornering speed is also important.
I’m sure Hamilton has a chance to win at Silverstone. He drives very well with cars set up with a front-end focus. That’s important at Silverstone. You need to maintain speed in the fast sections while also handling direction changes.
That’s Hamilton’s strong point. I’ve compared him to other drivers and noticed that he excels with front-end focused cars, and that’s exactly the setup needed at Silverstone.”
