British Grand Prix: Changes and Overtaking Zone
Before the weekend at Silverstone, the FIA announced changes to the track, the locations of the activation zones for the overtake mode (OT), and the SM (Straight Mode) zones.
The changes are minimal. The barriers, safety zones, access points to the track, and marshal posts have been repaired. Minor repairs have been made to the asphalt surface in the pits and at the pit lane exit.
Blue lines have been marked at the exits of turns 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 15, 17, and 18. The drainage system between turns 8 and 9 has been improved.
There is one overtake mode zone on the track. The detection point for this zone is located at the exit of turn 17.
Being within one second of the opponent's car at the measurement point, the driver will be able to activate the overtake mode, receiving an additional 0.5 MJ of electrical energy. The activation point for the overtake mode is 85 meters after turn 17.
The SM zones are divided into two subsections – red, where active aerodynamics is used under normal grip conditions (the rear and front wings can be opened), and blue – under reduced grip conditions (on a wet track, only the front wing can be opened).
There are four SM zones at Silverstone. Under normal grip conditions, active aerodynamics can be used in sections that start 65 meters after turn 18, 55 meters after turn 5, 155 meters after turn 7, and 65 meters after turn 14.
Under reduced grip conditions, active aerodynamics can be used in sections that start 115 meters after turn 18, 115 meters after turn 5, and 125 meters after turn 14.
