Oliver Berman: One must always maintain optimism

Oliver Berman is one of six Britons who will be competing at the home track this weekend. The Haas F1 driver admits that earning points will not be easy, but he hopes for good luck...

Oliver Berman: "There’s always a special feeling and incredible support in Silverstone. I’m thrilled; I always have more strength and motivation here. I really love racing at my home track.

Speaking about our chances, the weekend won’t be easy. I think we are ready for it. We just returned from Spielberg, where I had a good race, but our car was only eighth in speed.

If the situation repeats itself, we won’t earn points this weekend, but remember what happened last year due to the weather when Nico Hülkenberg climbed onto the podium? It once again shows that anything is possible. We need to stay optimistic and always give our all – a chance can arise at any moment, that’s the essence of Formula 1.

To be honest, our competitors simply got ahead of us in development. We haven’t introduced as many innovations and improvements as they have, so I’m not surprised that we are currently behind Alpine, Racing Bulls, and Audi. In Austria, we were on par with Williams. We need to work hard to improve the efficiency and speed of the car.

This weekend, we need to take a small step forward. I hope it will be a step in the right direction, but we need to keep moving forward – other teams have made more progress than we have, and we need to catch up."
