Bayer discloses Red Bull's strategy for Tsolov's F1 test.

"He's still short a few kilometres"

Red Bull is gearing up to give the promising Formula 2 talent Nikola Tsolov his first real experience with contemporary Formula 1 cars. As discussions continue regarding the Bulgarian's prospects of taking Liam Lawson's spot at Racing Bulls in 2027, team CEO Peter Bayer has disclosed that a Test of Previous Cars (TPC) session is already in the works.

"We are currently looking into having him participate in a TPC test because he needs a license to take part in Friday practice sessions," Bayer stated. "He still needs a few more kilometres. We are aiming for that in the autumn."

This arrangement would facilitate Tsolov in obtaining the license necessary for Formula 1 practice runs before making his anticipated FP1 debut later this season. The announcement comes on the heels of Tsolov's commanding win in Formula 2 at the Red Bull Ring, which has amplified calls for the 19-year-old to be promoted sooner.

However, Bayer also tempered new speculation regarding a predetermined seat for Tsolov at Racing Bulls in 2027. "Those are merely rumors," he affirmed. "He’s performing exceptionally well and is a remarkable talent that we certainly have on our radar. But we've only completed seven races thus far, and both Liam and Arvid are also performing admirably. So it's not a concern at the moment."

Nonetheless, if Tsolov secures this year's Formula 2 championship, Red Bull will have to make a choice, as champions are not allowed to stay in the category.
