Domenicali open to talks about preserving Silverstone 'for good'
"There is no other location in the UK"
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has expressed his readiness to talk about extending Silverstone's presence on the calendar beyond its current long-term contract. Silverstone entered into a new 10-year agreement in 2024, which secures the British Grand Prix until 2034. However, in an interview with the Daily Mail, Domenicali indicated that Silverstone’s involvement with Formula 1 might last even longer. "I am open to discussing that," he remarked when asked about a deal to guarantee Silverstone "forever." "It’s just a matter of sitting down and establishing the right conditions. Silverstone merits a spot on the calendar. It’s forever."
Domenicali also pointed out that no other British circuit is equipped to host Formula 1 at present. "There is no other venue in the UK, not Brands Hatch or Donington, that has the capacity required for Formula 1. We are too big." This weekend, the British Grand Prix is projected to draw a record 565,000 attendees over four days, with 175,000 expected on race day alone. "They are effectively minimizing any logistical issues given the large number of people attending – it’s a positive challenge to have," Domenicali commented. "They cannot rely solely on their heritage, but in recent years they have recognized the need to deliver the best experience possible for the fans. It is one of the most incredible places to witness the passion of motorsport. You feel exhilarated, regardless of your nationality."
