Berman: The competitors brought more new products than we did.
The Haas team finished their fight in the first part of the sprint qualifying in full. Oliver Berman and Esteban Ocon noted that the result reflects the capabilities of the VF-26 car at this moment.
Oliver Berman (17th): "It's a shame because if everything had gone as it should, I would have made it to the second part, but I started the lap with a low battery charge – only 10%, and on this track, that is critical.
Unfortunately, we were battling with Williams for a spot in the second part, which we hadn't done for several months. This shows that we need to continue working to make a big step forward.
We brought an updated rear wing that works as expected, but all the teams we are directly competing with brought more, so such results indicate where we stand.
We will not have any major updates until the summer break, so I expect the next races to be challenging. It's a shame, but that's the situation at the moment."
Esteban Ocon (18th): "A tough qualifying session. In the first practice, we saw that the car overall lacks speed, and in the sprint qualifying, the situation worsened. It's hard to say exactly in which areas we are lacking, but this is the result we have, and we need to keep working.
This is what the team will focus on this weekend – we will try to get the most out of the car. I hope that tomorrow we can improve a bit and qualify closer to the points."
