Lando Norris: We just got unlucky
At the beginning of the final session, Lando Norris had to go out on track in a somewhat damaged McLaren, which inevitably affected his speed. But when the team changed the nose cone on his MCL40, the reigning world champion was able to overtake his teammate and achieve the 6th fastest time.
Lando Norris (6th): "The damage affected me more than I thought, as we could only fix the problem right before the final attempt. The team did a great job, managed to get everything done, so the car behaved completely differently and much better.
For a significant part of the session, the driving experience was just shocking. Fortunately, we managed to fix everything, and when I went out for my last fast lap, I felt I could attack much more aggressively.
Today we were just unlucky, although the pace was more or less normal. In tomorrow's sprint, I will try to gain positions, and speaking of the cars around us at the start, we might be able to compete with Red Bull. George Russell's Mercedes is definitely much faster, so competing with him is much harder, but we'll see how it goes.
By the end, I was more satisfied with the car's behavior, but in preparation for tomorrow, there are still a few things to sort out and see if there's a chance to improve.
But I'm happy for Lewis Hamilton, who secured pole today, bringing joy to all the British fans – it was nice to see, even if we lacked the pace to compete with Ferrari."
Oscar Piastri (7th): "The result is about what we expected, as we realized during practice that we were going quite slowly. Although, to be honest, we thought the gap to those drivers who qualified behind Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli would be smaller. But we will try to make some improvements by tomorrow.
Compared to practice, we have definitely improved a bit, and the car is working better, but we haven't gained as much as we would like. It feels like I did everything I could, but we just lacked the pace. Still, we will try to fight for a better result tomorrow."
