F2: Rafael Kamara starts from pole in Silverstone.
The British stage of the championship in the youth series has created a rather curious tournament situation. The advantage of Gabriele Mini, the leader of the individual standings, has been reduced to two points, and although the Italian driver from MP Motorsport continues to perform quite consistently, Nikola Tsolov is gradually catching up with him. Mini last stood on the top of the podium in early May in Miami, while the Bulgarian driver Campos and participant of the Red Bull youth program has since won in Monaco and Barcelona. Naturally, on a track like Silverstone, both were determined to stand out, and the first such opportunity arose in today's qualifying. However, the main characters turned out to be not them at all.
Tsolov immediately drove relatively quickly, although it was clear that the results of the first attempts meant little, as speeds would gradually increase throughout the half-hour session. In theory, one could refer to last year's pole time – then Victor Martens completed a lap in 1:39.731. But after the first half of qualifying, the top spot was occupied by Alex Dunn with a time of 1:40.536.
The 20-year-old Irishman is in his second season with Rodin Motorsport and currently occupies 4th place in the individual standings, although he has no wins or poles to his name in 2026 yet. Before the start of qualifying, Alex said that Silverstone is his favorite track, which always gives a driver extra inspiration.
Interestingly, when almost all the drivers returned to the pits, Colton Herta remained on the track and made another attempt – while the American driver from Hitech was in a distant 15th place on the timing sheets. After the break, he was the last to hit the track, with just over 10 minutes left in the session.
Before the decisive attempt, Tsolov was in 8th place, Mini was only in 13th, but it was clear that both leaders would still have their say. However, so would Rafael Camara, Nikola's teammate, who was closing the top three in the individual standings, and before the break, he managed to show the third-best time.
Tsolov drove a very good lap, but his time (1:39.972) was immediately eclipsed by four drivers, the best of whom was indeed Camara with a time of 1:39.690. At the same time, Tsolov firmly told the team over the radio that he had already done the maximum he was capable of and would not be able to improve his time.
Perhaps he was somewhat reassured by the fact that Gabriele Mini, his main rival, was only in tenth place. However, this result allowed the Italian to start from pole in Saturday's sprint, which is no small matter. By the way, Camara is also a formidable opponent; it is no coincidence that he studies at the Ferrari Racing Academy, but he trails Tsolov by 24 points, which he still needs to make up.
There was still some time left in qualifying, but Rafael had already returned to the pits and began receiving congratulations for his pole – it was quite obvious that no one even tried to overtake him. By the way, this is already the second such achievement for the Brazilian this season; he first started from pole in Monaco, but there he was unlucky, and the victory went to Tsolov.
Thus, from the front row in the Sunday race of the weekend, Camara and Dunn will start, from the second – Kush Maini and Roman Bilinski, from the third – Tsolov and Tasanapol Intrafuwasak. As mentioned above, Mini showed the tenth-best result in qualifying, so he will start tomorrow's short race from pole.
Colton Herta did not manage to rise above 15th place, and in the main race of the weekend – as well as in the sprint – he will start behind Sebastian Montoya. Both are known for their rather aggressive racing style, which promises an interesting battle in this part of the peloton, not just in the leading group. It is better to refrain from more specific predictions for now.
