F3: Slater qualified for pole position for the first time in his career.
Freddie Slater set the fastest time in the Formula 3 qualifying at Silverstone. For the British driver from Trident, this is his first pole in Formula 3. Alongside him from the front row in the Sunday race will be Théophile Naël.
As soon as the countdown for the 30-minute qualifying began, the drivers immediately rushed onto the track. Fast laps started after two warm-up laps. The benchmark was set by Jin Nakamura – 1:47.588. Almost immediately, the Hitech GP driver’s time was surpassed by a large group led by Ernesto Rivera, who completed a lap in 1:46.479.
Rivera did not hold the top spot for long. His time was bettered by Freddie Slater and Matteo de Palo, but Slater's time was disqualified for exceeding track limits, and the lead went to de Palo (1:46.383), who remained in the lead after the first attempt.
For the second attempt, the drivers left the pits with 17 minutes remaining in qualifying. The pattern repeated – after two warm-up laps, one fast lap, and a return to the pits.
De Palo improved, but it wasn't enough to stay in first place. Rivera completed a lap even faster. However, the Mexican driver from Campos Racing's time was not the best. The fastest in the second attempt was Slater – 1:46.233. Maciej Gladysh moved up to 2nd place, while Rivera remained in 3rd.
For the final attempt, the drivers went out six minutes before the end of the session. Théophile Naël climbed to the top, but shortly after, Slater completed his attempt, which earned him pole (1:45.620). Luis Sharp moved up to 3rd place, overtaking Rivera and de Palo.
The starting grid for the sprint is reversed – the drivers who took the top twelve positions will start tomorrow in reverse order. Thus, from pole on Saturday, the leader of the personal standings, Hugo Ugochukwu, will start. Alongside him from the front row will be Evan David.
