Bottas: We changed the settings, and the balance was already better.
The Cadillac F1 team tried to make the most efficient use of Saturday's sprint to prepare for tomorrow's British Grand Prix, after which they switched to qualifying, where Valtteri Bottas showed the 18th time, and Sergio Perez – the 20th.
Valtteri Bottas (18th): "This was one of my more successful qualifying sessions of the season. We tried to work as well as possible, I had a good final attempt, and there was hardly anything more to squeeze out of the car.
After yesterday's qualifying for the sprint and today's short race, we adjusted the settings, and these changes helped us in the main qualifying session of the weekend – the car's balance was already better. But they should fit even more for tomorrow's race, so let's see what we can achieve."
Sergio Perez (20th): "After the incident with Fernando Alonso, we used the sprint as an opportunity to gather more information. I apologized to him for what happened in the sprint, but fortunately, he lost little.
In qualifying, I had issues with the car's balance at high speeds, so we made quite a few changes to the settings, and one of them caused the front wheels to lose grip in the fast sections of the lap, which only added to the difficulties.
At the same time, we gained useful information that will be helpful tomorrow, and I hope we can perform much stronger in the race and fight with the midfield teams. I anticipate that there will be a lot of events, and we need to be ready to take any opportunities."
Graham Loudon, team principal: "Today it was important to gather as much information as possible about the car and tire behavior on this fast track. In the sprint, we intentionally used a split strategy, which allowed us to prepare well for tomorrow's Grand Prix. Valtteri and Sergio demonstrated professional maturity while preparing for the Sunday race, which promises to be long and unpredictable."
