Sainz anticipates 'yo-yo' racing even with the FIA's adjustments.
"It will likely be one of the most entertaining circuits"
Carlos Sainz anticipates that the controversial 2026 regulations in Formula 1 will lead to more "yo-yo" racing at Silverstone, despite the FIA making another late tweak to the energy rules. This week, drivers such as Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso, and Charles Leclerc have expressed their concerns that the current regulations have diminished the challenge and excitement of classic tracks like Silverstone. Nevertheless, Sainz believes that the British GP could still be entertaining. "In my opinion, it will probably be one of the most entertaining circuits, but for the wrong reasons," he remarked. "It's because we have such limited energy, and we'll have to engage in the 'I'll use my energy here, but then you will overtake me again' strategy. I think you'll witness some 'yo-yo' racing again this weekend, which is essentially what it is." According to Auto Motor und Sport, in response to increasing concerns, the FIA made another late modification to Silverstone’s energy management regulations. After previously reducing energy recovery limits before Miami, the governing body has now further lowered the qualifying charging limit for Silverstone from 7.5 to 6.5 megajoules, aiming to curtail excessive lift-and-coast driving and 'superclipping'. However, the German publication stated that these changes are unlikely to have a significant impact on lap times and are merely "a drop in the ocean."
