"Carlos has the option to leave, but not just anywhere."

James Vowles asserts that Carlos Sainz aims to conclude his Formula 1 career at Williams, though the Spanish driver states he has not yet determined his future plans. Their remarks come as new rumors link Sainz to Audi and Alpine for 2027, while Williams continues to face challenges despite introducing new wings at Silverstone.

"Carlos mentioned yesterday: ‘Williams? That’s where I want to be, that’s where I want to finish my career,’” Vowles shared with Sky Deutschland. “Those are his words, not mine. However, in this sport, nothing is certain, even with a contract in place.”

Vowles also noted that Sainz, whose current contract ends this year, has other options available. “Carlos is free to go, but not just anywhere; he has various alternatives,” he stated.

Nevertheless, Sainz emphasized that he hasn’t started evaluating those options yet. “Honestly, I haven’t,” he told Sky Deutschland when questioned about considering other teams. “I haven’t because I still have a lot of work to do here at Williams right now.”

Earlier at Silverstone, he reiterated, “I’m not looking around. I’m focused on the tasks at hand here at Williams. As I informed the team, I will think about it during the summer break.”

On the track, Sainz acknowledged that Williams’ new front wing provided less benefit than expected, despite a solid sprint qualifying showing. “It was a very good sprint qualifying session," he remarked. "It was probably my best lap of the season so far. However, we brought a front wing that we believed would offer significant performance, but it only helped us to pass the Haas cars in qualifying, just as they were ahead in Austria, and we find ourselves here. But we’re still quite a distance from the front. We’re still far from the top ten. The Audis and RBs appear to be half a second quicker, which is too much for our liking. But it is what it is; we’ll continue to push and give our best.”
