Horner downplays discussions regarding the BYD-supported Formula 1 initiative.
Christian Horner maintains that he holds no bitterness towards Red Bull, despite making his initial appearance in the Formula 1 paddock following his sudden exit from the team. The former Red Bull leader was present at the British GP as a guest of Formula 1 and the FIA and was seen interacting with his old team members after the race on Sunday.
"It all occurred very swiftly, but what's done is done," he said. "I believe there’s now a mutual understanding that things could have been handled differently. But life moves on, and I harbor no animosity towards anyone."
Horner also expressed pride in the Red Bull-Ford power unit project that commenced during his tenure. "That engine is remarkable," he told Viaplay. "You have to keep in mind that factory was previously producing bubble wrap. Sometimes it’s too easy to overlook that achievement. Apparently, it is ahead of everyone else, so I’m incredibly proud of that."
Although he mentions he has relished his time away from Formula 1, he is now free to return under contract, with speculation suggesting he might be involved with a potential twelfth team supported by Chinese automotive giant BYD. "All speculation..." Horner told ORF. "At times, there’s more to life than Formula 1," he added to Viaplay. "You know, don’t believe the rumors. There’s a new one every week, and I’m sure there will be another tomorrow."
Nonetheless, Horner’s appearance at Silverstone attracted significant attention, especially since he was with former Red Bull communications head Alice Hedworth, who departed the team just two months prior. Current team leaders were also questioned about the prospect of Formula 1 adding a twelfth team following Cadillac's entry this year.
"I haven’t considered it," said McLaren chief Zak Brown. "If they believe it’s beneficial for the sport, then let’s have a twelfth team. If not, we’ll continue with the current setup." Alpine’s Steve Nielsen remarked, "I think it somewhat depends on who it is."
